The Bois Caiman ceremony
Descendants of the mighty Bantu, Niger Congo and Afro-Asiatic peoples surrounded the roaring camp fire.
Enslaved for multiple centuries, but stories of their West African principalities remained.
And to glory they wish to return.
Cecile Fatiman, daughter to an Italian prince and an enslaved woman; Dutty Boukman, Islamic scholar hailing from Senegal / Gambia take the stand.
Dutty leads the prayer
“The white man’s god asks him to commit crimes. But the god within us wants to do good. Our god, who is so good, so just, He orders us to revenge our wrongs”
They makes sacrifices and tell the coming of the black messiah who will rescue their people from the grips of slavery.
Quick facts | Bois Caiman
This short story is based on the Bois Caiman ceremony 1791 which is a tipping point in the 3 century African diaspora’s fight against slavery.
We see the introduction of key figures such as Dutty Boukman, the opening for Toussaint Louverture who later successfully led the uprising against the French and then went to threaten the Imperial infrastructure of Western Europe.
Many of the changes around workers rights and liberalism can be traced back to the influence of the Bois Caiman ceremony.
